The Center for Closing the Carbon Cycle (4C)

is an interdisciplinary DOE-funded Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC) that is establishing the science for integrating CO2 capture from dilute sources and the conversion of the captured product into carbon-based commodities.

Capturing CO2

Why

Capturing CO2 from dilute industrial sources or air and turning into carbon feedstocks is critical for closing the anthropogenic carbon cycle. Our scientific discoveries will contribute to establishing carbon net-zero and net-negative technologies.

Who and Where

An interdisciplinary group of scientists and engineers from twelve universities and three national laboratories. Learn more about us under Researchers.

How

4C is a DOE-funded Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC) that works collaboratively to advance our scientific goals and pursue enabling technologies. By working across disciplines and utilizing state-of-the-art instrumentation and experimental techniques, we will accelerate the advances needed to mitigate carbon emissions.
